Micro E-mini Dow (MYM) Tick Value & Contract Specs

Tick value $0.50 per tick — $0.50 × the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The Micro E-mini Dow (MYM) is the smallest way to trade the Dow Jones Industrial Average, worth $0.50 per index point against YM's $5. Its tick is a full index point, so tick value and point value are the same number — $0.50 — which makes MYM the easiest index future to size in your head. A 100-point Dow move is $50 per contract; a 250-point move, the kind that follows a surprise inflation print, is $125.

With the Dow near 40,000, one MYM contract carries roughly $20,000 of notional exposure — an order of magnitude below the E-mini, and low enough that day-trade margin at most brokers runs to a few dozen dollars. That combination of trivial arithmetic and small notional is why MYM is a common first futures contract, and why experienced traders use it to run a strategy at live-money stakes before committing to YM.

The Dow's construction matters more than its size. It is price-weighted across just 30 names, so a single high-priced constituent can pull the index in a direction the S&P 500 does not follow. Traders who watch that divergence often hold MYM against MES rather than trading it outright. The calculator below is pre-filled with MYM's specs.

How MYM tick value works

Tick value is the dollar amount one futures contract gains or loses when the price moves one minimum increment (one tick).

tick value = tick size × multiplier. For MYM, that is 1 × $0.50 = $0.50 per tick, per contract.

One contract represents $0.50 × the Dow Jones Industrial Average. P&L for a move from entry to exit is (exit − entry) ÷ tick size × tick value × contracts.
