CME

Ether (ETH) Tick Value & Contract Specs

Tick value $12.50 per tick — 50 ether.

CME Ether futures (ETH) hold 50 ether per contract, five hundred times the 0.1 ether in a Micro Ether (MET) contract. The minimum tick is $0.25 per ether, worth $12.50 per contract, so a $10 move in ether is $500 per contract and a $100 move is $5,000. Settlement is in cash against the CME CF Ether-Dollar Reference Rate, so no ether ever changes hands.

Ether has historically been more volatile than bitcoin, so the full-size contract can produce very large swings relative to its margin. It suits accounts that would otherwise need dozens of micros to reach the same exposure. The ratio to the micro is the detail most often got wrong: one ETH contract equals 500 MET contracts, not ten, so converting a position between the two by the usual micro factor understates it fiftyfold. Ether's price reacts to bitcoin's direction, network activity, staking yields and protocol upgrades, and like all CME crypto futures it stops trading over the weekend while spot does not, which can leave a gap at the Sunday-evening reopen. The calculator below is pre-filled with ETH's specs.

How ETH tick value works

Tick value is the dollar amount one futures contract gains or loses when the price moves one minimum increment (one tick).

tick value = tick size × multiplier. For ETH, that is 0.25 × $50 = $12.50 per tick, per contract.

One contract represents 50 ether. P&L for a move from entry to exit is (exit − entry) ÷ tick size × tick value × contracts.

ETH contract months and ticker symbols

A futures ticker is three parts: the root, a one-letter delivery month, and the year. ETHZ2026 is the December 2026 ETH contract. The month letters skip I and L, which would read as 1 and 7 on a ticker.

Which ETH contract am I looking at?

Most charts default to the continuous front-month series rather than a dated contract — one stitched-together chart that rolls to the next month as the current one nears expiry. Every platform spells it differently, which is why the same contract appears under so many names.

Written asPlatformMeaning
ETH1!TradingViewContinuous front-month contract. "2!" is the next one out, and a dated contract is written in full, e.g. ETHZ2026.
ETH00BarchartContinuous front-month series. "ETHZ26" style codes name a specific month and year instead.
ETHc1Refinitiv / ReutersContinuous front month; c2 is the second month out.
/ETHthinkorswim, tastytradeThe leading slash marks it as a future rather than a stock. A specific month is /ETHZ26.
ETH=FYahoo FinanceThe "=F" suffix denotes the front-month futures series.
$ETHStockTwits, socialA cashtag, not an exchange symbol. It usually means the front month, but it is informal and ambiguous.

A dated code such as ETHZ26 always means one specific contract; the continuous forms never do. Check which you are quoting before comparing a price to someone else’s — around a roll they differ.

Frequently asked questions

What is the tick value for ETH?
$12.50 per tick — a 0.25 tick size × a $50 multiplier (point value).
What is one ETH contract worth?
One contract represents 50 ether. Notional value = price × $50; use the tick value calculator with the current price for an exact figure.
Which exchange lists ETH?
Ether (ETH) trades on the CME.
What are the trading hours for ETH?
Sun–Fri 6:00pm–5:00pm ET, with a daily trading halt 5:00pm–6:00pm ET.
How much margin do I need to trade ETH?
Margin varies by broker and moves with ether's realised volatility, which has historically run above bitcoin's.
What are the ETH contract months?
ETH lists January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. Consecutive monthly contracts are listed a few months forward, along with the nearest December contracts.
What does ETHZ2026 mean?
It is one specific ETH contract: the root ETH, the delivery-month code Z, and the year. Z is December, so ETHZ2026 is the December 2026 contract. The codes run F G H J K M N Q U V X Z for January through December — I and L are skipped because they read as 1 and 7 on a ticker.
What is ETH00, ETH1! or /ETH?
All three name the same thing: the continuous front-month ETH contract, written differently by different platforms. Barchart uses ETH00, TradingView ETH1!, thinkorswim and tastytrade /ETH, Yahoo Finance ETH=F, and ETH on social media is usually written $ETH. None of them is a separate instrument — each stitches together whichever dated contract is currently the front month.
How is P&L calculated for ETH?
P&L = (exit price − entry price) ÷ 0.25 tick size × $12.50 tick value × number of contracts. Use the tick value calculator to compute this directly.
