Micro Ether (MET) Tick Value & Contract Specs

Tick value $0.05 per tick — 0.1 ether.

Micro Ether futures (MET) hold 0.1 ether, mirroring MBT's structure at a much lower notional. The tick is $0.50 per ether, worth $0.05 per contract — five cents, the smallest tick value on this site. A $10 move in ether is $1.00 per contract, which makes MET the most granular way to take a position in crypto through a regulated futures account.

Ether is not simply a smaller bitcoin, and the contracts behave differently. Ether's price responds to network activity, staking economics, gas fees and the periodic protocol upgrades that change issuance — mechanisms bitcoin has no equivalent of. It has historically realised higher volatility than bitcoin while remaining correlated to it, so an ETH position tends to be a leveraged expression of the same broad crypto direction rather than a diversifier. Like MBT, settlement is cash against a CME reference rate, with no wallet, custody or withdrawal risk in the chain. The sizing caution is the same and matters more at this scale: the multiplier is 0.1, so one contract is a tenth of an ether, not one. The calculator below is pre-filled with MET's specs.

How MET tick value works

Tick value is the dollar amount one futures contract gains or loses when the price moves one minimum increment (one tick).

tick value = tick size × multiplier. For MET, that is 0.5 × $0.10 = $0.05 per tick, per contract.

One contract represents 0.1 ether. P&L for a move from entry to exit is (exit − entry) ÷ tick size × tick value × contracts.

MET contract months and ticker symbols

A futures ticker is three parts: the root, a one-letter delivery month, and the year. METZ2026 is the December 2026 MET contract. The month letters skip I and L, which would read as 1 and 7 on a ticker.

Which MET contract am I looking at?

Most charts default to the continuous front-month series rather than a dated contract — one stitched-together chart that rolls to the next month as the current one nears expiry. Every platform spells it differently, which is why the same contract appears under so many names.

Written asPlatformMeaning
MET1!TradingViewContinuous front-month contract. "2!" is the next one out, and a dated contract is written in full, e.g. METZ2026.
MET00BarchartContinuous front-month series. "METZ26" style codes name a specific month and year instead.
METc1Refinitiv / ReutersContinuous front month; c2 is the second month out.
/METthinkorswim, tastytradeThe leading slash marks it as a future rather than a stock. A specific month is /METZ26.
MET=FYahoo FinanceThe "=F" suffix denotes the front-month futures series.
$METStockTwits, socialA cashtag, not an exchange symbol. It usually means the front month, but it is informal and ambiguous.

A dated code such as METZ26 always means one specific contract; the continuous forms never do. Check which you are quoting before comparing a price to someone else’s — around a roll they differ.

Frequently asked questions

What is the tick value for MET?
$0.05 per tick — a 0.5 tick size × a $0.10 multiplier (point value).
What is one MET contract worth?
One contract represents 0.1 ether. Notional value = price × $0.10; use the tick value calculator with the current price for an exact figure.
Which exchange lists MET?
Micro Ether (MET) trades on the CME.
What are the trading hours for MET?
Sun–Fri 6:00pm–5:00pm ET, with a daily trading halt 5:00pm–6:00pm ET.
How much margin do I need to trade MET?
Margin varies by broker and moves with ether's realised volatility, which has historically run above bitcoin's.
What are the MET contract months?
MET lists January, February, March, June, September, October, November and December. The nearest months are listed serially, with quarterly contracts further out.
What does METZ2026 mean?
It is one specific MET contract: the root MET, the delivery-month code Z, and the year. Z is December, so METZ2026 is the December 2026 contract. The codes run F G H J K M N Q U V X Z for January through December — I and L are skipped because they read as 1 and 7 on a ticker.
What is MET00, MET1! or /MET?
All three name the same thing: the continuous front-month MET contract, written differently by different platforms. Barchart uses MET00, TradingView MET1!, thinkorswim and tastytrade /MET, Yahoo Finance MET=F, and MET on social media is usually written $MET. None of them is a separate instrument — each stitches together whichever dated contract is currently the front month.
How is P&L calculated for MET?
P&L = (exit price − entry price) ÷ 0.5 tick size × $0.05 tick value × number of contracts. Use the tick value calculator to compute this directly.
