Micro Bitcoin (MBT) Tick Value & Contract Specs

Tick value $0.50 per tick — 0.1 bitcoin.

Micro Bitcoin futures (MBT) hold 0.1 bitcoin per contract, which makes the multiplier fractional and the tick unusually small in dollar terms. The minimum increment is $5.00 per bitcoin, so one tick is $0.50 per contract and a $100 move in bitcoin is $10. That is a genuinely small unit of risk for an asset that regularly covers several thousand dollars in a session.

The appeal of MBT over spot is what sits behind it rather than what it tracks. These are CME-listed, centrally cleared, cash-settled contracts regulated as US futures, so there is no exchange custody risk, no withdrawal queue and no counterparty question — the concerns that have repeatedly cost spot holders their positions. Settlement references the CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate rather than any single venue's print. The trade-off is session structure: futures observe the CME maintenance halt and settle daily against a fixed benchmark, while spot runs continuously, so the two can diverge around the daily close. For sizing, note that the multiplier is 0.1 and not a whole number — deriving position size as though one contract equals one bitcoin overstates exposure tenfold. The calculator below is pre-filled correctly.

How MBT tick value works

Tick value is the dollar amount one futures contract gains or loses when the price moves one minimum increment (one tick).

tick value = tick size × multiplier. For MBT, that is 5 × $0.10 = $0.50 per tick, per contract.

One contract represents 0.1 bitcoin. P&L for a move from entry to exit is (exit − entry) ÷ tick size × tick value × contracts.

MBT contract months and ticker symbols

A futures ticker is three parts: the root, a one-letter delivery month, and the year. MBTZ2026 is the December 2026 MBT contract. The month letters skip I and L, which would read as 1 and 7 on a ticker.

Which MBT contract am I looking at?

Most charts default to the continuous front-month series rather than a dated contract — one stitched-together chart that rolls to the next month as the current one nears expiry. Every platform spells it differently, which is why the same contract appears under so many names.

Written asPlatformMeaning
MBT1!TradingViewContinuous front-month contract. "2!" is the next one out, and a dated contract is written in full, e.g. MBTZ2026.
MBT00BarchartContinuous front-month series. "MBTZ26" style codes name a specific month and year instead.
MBTc1Refinitiv / ReutersContinuous front month; c2 is the second month out.
/MBTthinkorswim, tastytradeThe leading slash marks it as a future rather than a stock. A specific month is /MBTZ26.
MBT=FYahoo FinanceThe "=F" suffix denotes the front-month futures series.
$MBTStockTwits, socialA cashtag, not an exchange symbol. It usually means the front month, but it is informal and ambiguous.

A dated code such as MBTZ26 always means one specific contract; the continuous forms never do. Check which you are quoting before comparing a price to someone else’s — around a roll they differ.

What does MBTZ2026 mean?
It is one specific MBT contract: the root MBT, the delivery-month code Z, and the year. Z is December, so MBTZ2026 is the December 2026 contract. The codes run F G H J K M N Q U V X Z for January through December — I and L are skipped because they read as 1 and 7 on a ticker.
What is MBT00, MBT1! or /MBT?
All three name the same thing: the continuous front-month MBT contract, written differently by different platforms. Barchart uses MBT00, TradingView MBT1!, thinkorswim and tastytrade /MBT, Yahoo Finance MBT=F, and MBT on social media is usually written $MBT. None of them is a separate instrument — each stitches together whichever dated contract is currently the front month.
How is P&L calculated for MBT?
P&L = (exit price − entry price) ÷ 5 tick size × $0.50 tick value × number of contracts. Use the tick value calculator to compute this directly.
